On Sunday, June 29 from 12-5 PM, Eastside Family Acupuncture of Larchmont will be hosting a special fundraising event with proceeds to benefit indie rock drummer Andrew Griffin, who is currently battling cancer both physically and financially. Griffin is a close friend of Melissa Monroe, the founder of Eastside, and a former band mate of her husband Duff Ferguson. Larchmont Traditional Medicine, owned by Jim Bloomfield, is generously donating the space and supplies for the benefit.

On the day of the benefit, Eastside will offer reduced cost treatments using traditional Eastern medical techniques such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, and lifestyle counseling among other modalities. Eastside Family Acupuncture owner, Melissa Monroe, L.Ac, will perform all services.

Each treatment will be offered for only $50, which is more than 50% off the usual cost of an initial visit. As time and space are limited for this event, appointments must be made in advance and some forms need to be filled out prior to your arrival that day. Forms can be found here.

In September 2006, Griffin was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic colon cancer at the age of 36. He has since had two major surgeries as well as several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, which have left his family financially devastated despite having health insurance. Griffin is founder of a large drummer’s training school in San Francisco and has performed, recorded, and toured as an in-demand session drummer with many influential bands and artists, including a summer 2007 tour of Europe with CAKE. All proceeds from the benefit will be going to help offset Griffin’s ongoing medical expenses. Griffin is married with a young son and resides in Alameda, CA.

Melissa M. Monroe, L.Ac, the owner and founder of Eastside Family Acupuncture, is licensed by the State of California as well as the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. In addition to her private practice, Melissa teaches Psychology of Patient Care and is a Technical Supervisor at her alma mater, Samra University of Oriental Medicine.
